Pro-Life Leaders: Obama Still Misleading Americans on Abortion Funding

By Eric Young|Christian Post Reporter

Pro-life leaders across the nation made it clear Thursday that President Obama’s claim that "no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions" is misleading and flat out not true.

A shopper walks past television screens showing President Barack Obama delivering in Washington a speech on health care to a joint session of Congress, Wednesday, Sept., 9, 2009, at a Best Buy store in Omaha, Neb., Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009.

"President Obama continued to mislead the American people by casually dismissing the concerns of millions of Americans who have deep moral objections to their tax dollars paying for abortions,” noted Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, referring to Obama’s speech at the joint session of Congress Wednesday.

"It's surprising the President continues to claim that 'no federal dollars' will fund abortion particularly after this assertion was widely disputed weeks ago by FactCheck.org along with reporters and columnists at the Associated Press, Time Magazine, and The Washington Post. Even supporters of the President such as Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak, Rev. Jim Wallis, and Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren agree that the current health care plans include abortion coverage with federal dollars,” Perkins added.

On Wednesday, Obama said he wanted to clear up some of the “bogus claims” that have increased American concern over current health care plans, saying they were “spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost.”

But pro-life leaders such as Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life argue that any misunderstanding or “bogus claim” there may be over the federal funding of abortion via health care reform legislation have come from the White House, not pro-lifers.

“The reality is that federal funds will indeed go to pay for abortions and to subsidize private insurers that pay for abortions. There are absolutely no safeguards to prevent this funding of abortion,” insists Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

“It is shameful and disturbing that Obama would stand before Congress and all of the nation, look into the camera, and lie about a matter that is of great concern to the vast majority of the American people who oppose using their hard-earned money to bail out a failing abortion industry. Obama has denigrated the office of the Presidency and played the American people for fools,” he said.

According to Factcheck.org, a project of The Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, the current House bill would allow abortions to be covered by a federal plan and by federally subsidized private plans though it does not require federal funds to be used to support abortion coverage.

“As for the House bill as it stands now, it’s a matter of fact that it would allow both a 'public plan' and newly subsidized private plans to cover all abortions,” reported Brooks Jackson, director of Factcheck.org, which takes no position on whether the health care bill should or should not allow coverage for abortions.

“Therefore, we judge that the president goes too far when he calls the statements that government would be funding abortions 'fabrications,'" Jackson had concluded.

According to a new nationwide poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, six in 10 (58 percent) of Americans do not believe the government has an obligation to provide abortion services under its public health care plan. Furthermore, 55 percent say that it’s wrong for the government to pay for abortions.

And though only four-in-ten voters (43 percent) say they would be less likely to support the president's proposed health plan if the government pays for abortions, just 8 percent say it would make them more likely to support the plan. The remaining 46 percent of Americans, meanwhile, say it makes no difference to them whether or not health care reform legislation allows for government funding of abortion.

Obama is the most highly proficient liar I have ever seen, even eclipsing Clinton. But this time, while he was as brazen as always, the smoothness had given way to an ugly anger. The veil is being ripped off this fraud. God have mercy on America.

Amen DP! Obama made it possible to commit infanticide
all over the world with USA taxpayer dollars. How can
anyone think he is telling the truth about anything?
"On the day after the 36th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, President Barack Obama repealed a Reagan-era policy that prohibited foreign nongovernmental family-planning groups from receiving U.S. funds if they provided abortions or even lobbied for abortion rights in their country. It is an action his abortion-rights supporters have waited eight years for and one they had encouraged him to waste no time taking."

Obama's speech covered the current Health Care bill. If no money or funds under that bill is slated to pay for abortions then he is correct and accurate.

The article speculates about PRIVATE companies and not the health care bill so is the author speculating that the companies who may receive money covers abortions then the health care bill even though it says specifically no funding for abortions that you can tie it together? Well that doesn't wash since the private companies are free to cover what they want and guess what since the author has forgotten abortions are legal and those against them may not use religious ideology to dictate to a secular law governing it.

Regardless any funds that are paid are directed to pay for certain things period so the argument is unsupportable and more importantly since the funds can't be specifically trace can't be proven to have or will be used for said abortions.

Once again another author is shown to be only making up another fiction but that is expected since the author bases their entire existence upon fiction and unprovable speculation. Too bad the author refuses to follow TRUE CHRISTIANITY and continues under a false doctrine and dogma.

The Gospel must not be preached without the Law. Scripture states that life begins at conception and it is wrong to kill. Prolifers are putting their faith into action by opposing abortion. The reason prolifers are more vocal about abortion than other sins that were mentioned is the Government has not only made such a murderous act legal, but they want all taxpayers including prolifers to pay for it. Telling others that scripture states abortion is wrong is not judging others. It is telling that God has judged this act as a wrong thing to do. This is the duty of every Christian to tell both law and Gospel. Confessing Jesus and our sins saves us, not living a perfect life free of sins.

Actually, I used to blame all of Obama's ineptness on his inexperience and just getting off the ground, but now I'm beginning to think that he thinks he's the real macoy and can just lie and we all just simply have to suck it up. That's how the communists and socialists have to do it, because otherwise it's not palatable for public digestion.

Didn't Obama just lie...I mean say that abortion would not be part of his health care plan?

"Section 2511 of H.R. 3200 would make Planned Parenthood eligible to operate federal-managed health clinics in our schools. To make matters worse, the legislation leaves wide open the possibility that those clinics would be permitted to provide abortion services."

If it's not illegal...it's legal. That's the way our courts work. This is why conservatives want it written into the law that abortions will NOT be provided under the health care plan and why the democrats have voted it down. Why would the Dems do that if they, in truth, were not going to have that option? They lie....

Obama has been lying to the American people for a long time. We actually have actions that prove him a liar now. No surprise he's lying about the health bill to get it done. Obama thinks he knows better than you, so he'll lie and manipulate to get what he wants done. There is no honor in this man.

Don't believe me, read Culture of Corruption by Michelle Malkin. You can verify the information she provides. Look up Obama's history with abortion in Illinois. He has freed up federal dollars to go to abortion abroad. What more do you need?

Do you honestly believe that Bush ordered the American troops to .."kill innocent Iraqi citizens"? And you think that a General of the service and Congress would just welcome that order. Get back to reality.

There is no final bill yet. So for these activists to say Obama is lying, is ridiculous.

Why not wait until the actual health care reform bill is put together before raising an alarm or accusing people of lying?

With everything which is being tossed around lately, from conspiracy theories, half truths, out right lies to manipulation and fear tactics (and many of those who go by the term 'Christian right' are just as guilty as the media)this nation is headed for an implosion; And its not going to be foreign terrorists who cause it.

Too many people, including brothers and sisters in Christ, are acting like the boy in Aesop's fable, the boy who cried wolf'...

And you know how that story ended: when the wolf really did show up, no one paid any attention to the little boy.

Oh my goodness! Where are your stalwarts on the Republican side? Why are they not taking care of this? Oh, that's right, they're stonewalling the whole thing and refusing to negotiate.

Instead of being practical and pragmatic by realizing we had an election, which they lost resoundingly, and becoming a partner in framing health care reform, they would rather play for short-term political gain and remain outside the fray. And in taking this course, they are drawing even closer to their own fringe element, who is influencing them even more then their old partners, the religious right.

As a result, you who have supported the Republicans for years have no clout whatsoever, except whatever the Democrats choose to give you.

Don't blame the Democrats for what the Republicans can no longer give you. It's not primarily YOUR government any more as it was, to some extent under Bush. You sound like petulant children whose every whim is no longer being addressed.
