'Kiki' Sheard Tops Japanese Radio, Receives 3 Stellar Nominations

EMI Gospel recording artist Kierra “Kiki” Sheard is at the top of Japan’s radio charts this week with her single “Let Go” from her 2005 summer release Just Until….

“Let Go” is currently No. 1 on both the Japanese overall/combined international and domestic radio charts and No. 5 on the “Tokyo Hot 100,” which is the music chart for J-Wave – the largest pop radio station in Japan.

In addition to her radio success, Sheard has also been nominated for three 2006 Stellar Awards including “Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year,” “Urban Song of the Year,” and “Contemporary CD of the Year.” The 21st Annual Stellar Awards will be handed out at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Jan. 21.

Sheard, who’s 2004 debut release I Owe You marked the first time that a new gospel artist debuted at number one on the gospel sales charts, is currently in the studio recording her untitled sophomore project, which is scheduled to hit stores in the Springtime.

In related news, Sheard’s mother, Karen Clark-Sheard – the youngest member of the legendary Clark Sisters and daughter of gospel pioneer Dr. Mattie Moss Clark – will be releasing her new CD It’s Not Over on Jan. 24.

Produced by gold-selling artist Israel Houghton and Aaron Lindsey, the CD features the compelling ballad “Favor,” which will be hitting radio stations nationwide soon.
