The largest International Christian Human Rights Conference held in the UK, entitled Grace Under Pressure, has been slated for November 15, 2003. Christian Solidarity Worldwide, Release International and Premier Christian Radio jointly host the event, which will be held at the Westminster Chapel in Buckingham Gate, London.
Confirmed speakers include Anthony Poggo - Deputy Executive Director of Across, a church-based NGO working in southern Sudan; Wuille Figueroa - human rights lawyer from Peru; Canon Andrew White - Special Director of the International Centre for Reconciliation at Coventry Cathedral and the Archbishop of Canterbury's representative to the Middle East; Baroness Caroline Cox - a Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords; and Joseph DSouza - President of the All India Christian Council.
Jim Graham will preside through the prayer sessions. Graham Kendrick will lead the worship services; Kendrick will hold a prayer concert at St. Michaels Chester Square on the night preceding the conference. There will also be a performance by the Hanbeet Korean Choir and presentations on life for Christians in Iraq and Nigeria.
With 2 Corinthians 12:9, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness, as the main passage, the event will focus on the inspirational demonstrated by the persecuted Church.
Leaders of the sponsoring Christian organizations praised the event, calling it an inspiration to be challenged.
There are few environments in which the UK Christian public can obtain up to date, factually correct and well-researched information presented in a way that will inspire and lead to direct action. The International Christian Human Rights Conference is the biggest of its kind in the world and as such is proving to be an unmissable date in the calendar of every thinking world Christian. This is a must attend event, said Eddie Lyle, Executive Director of Release International.
Premier is proud to be a part of this important conference. The speaker list is second to none, and with over a thousand participants expected we're excited to be broadcasting from an event that really helps Christians who are suffering for their faith worldwide, said Peter Kerridge, Managing Director of Premier Christian Radio.
This conference gives UK Christians the opportunity to stand in solidarity with the persecuted Church, to learn from them, to be inspired and to be challenged, said the Chief Executive of CSW, Mervyn Thomas. I hope that as many as possible will join us in what will be an unforgettable day.
