2017 Bugatti Chiron World's Fastest Production Supercar to Hit the 261-Mph Mark

Out with the old and in with the new: the reign of 2005's Bugatti Veyron has finally come to a close as it now pave way to its successor, the new Bugatti Chiron.

Chiron, the newest in its line is much more like the Veyron, "but more," a report from CNN said. While the former garnered much attention for its neck-breaking 253 mph (407 km/h) top speed, the world is yet to drop their jaws as the Chiron is claimed to go even faster at 261 miles per hour. At this speed, a person can drive from New York City to Atlanta in 3 and half hours. That is minus the pit-stops.

What makes it more capable is its 16 cylinder engine which produces 1500 horsepower, 300 more from that of the Veyron.

Car and Driver said in their review that the company has tuned the Chiron's four turbochargers to work in sequence. The first two operates at "low engine speeds for better response" and the other two "take over above roughly 3,800 rpm for maximum power.

Other modifications include rerouting the turbos to a new titanium exhaust which weighs 44 pounds – lighter than most 16-cylinder engines use.

Like its predecessor, torque is spread towards the four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Moreover, the Chiron now has five drive modes to boast. Drivers can now find standard "EB" automatic mode, the Lift mode (for speed bumps and driveway entrances), the Autobahn, the Handling, and the Top Speed. Unlike the first four modes where drivers can easily tweak using the dial found in the steering wheel, the Top Speed, however, would require a "Speed Key" to enable the Chiron's Vmax potential. Speaking about the interior of the sports car, Car and Driver said that everything inside "has been completely redesigned."

The 2017 Bugatti Chiron is priced at $2.6 million. According to Maxim, there are only 500 Chirons in production. Customers can customize their car's colors, finishes, upholstery, dashboard and instrument panel trim, and even the wheels.
