Being in a romantic relationship can prove to be challenging especially in the aspects of intimacy and abstinence. But there are couples who were successful in holding on to their purity pledge until they got married. What was their secret? Here are five sure-fire ways to keep you and your partner on the right track.

Make a commitment between yourselves

Staying chaste requires the cooperation of both parties. If the boyfriend is a demanding person who constantly pressures the girl into "proving her love," or if the girlfriend is fond of teasing her guy to see how attracted he is to her, good luck with that.

Dress modestly

The reality is that teenage boys get easily stimulated visually. They also have this warped idea that a girl who dresses suggestively wants to get it. Everyone can look sexy, but a girl who wants to leave a lasting impression not only to her boyfriend will aspire for higher things like excellence in academics and sports, development of wit and personality, and character formation.

Keep your mind off the gutter

That means getting rid of lurid thoughts by avoiding entertainment forms like movies, TV shows and music with suggestive themes especially when you're together. If you see dirty photos on Facebook, scroll down. Agree to get sex off the table in your discussions even if it involves other couples. Avoid company who love talking about the subject.

See and appreciate her value

Keep in mind that she's your girlfriend. You aspired for her and God answered your prayer by getting you two together. You also promised her parents to take care of her. Enjoy her beauty and her company. Be grateful for her attention. You can't imagine life without her so don't overstep your boundaries. It's worth the wait.

Learn from others' mistakes

You may have known other people who suffered the consequences of premarital sex like teenage pregnancy and marrying too early. They could even be your own parents or relatives. Playing with fire has its effects, mostly unpleasant, so why take the risk?
