'A Song of Fire and Ice' News: George R.R. Martin Still Working on 'Winds of Winter,' Talks About His Progress

Fans have been constantly badgering "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin about when the next installment of his book series, "A Song of Fire and Ice," will be released.

The author released the fifth installment "A Dance with Dragons" in 2011, and the sixth book, titled "The Winds of Winter" has been eagerly anticipated since then.

Martin recently spoke to Digital Spy about his writing process and said that he has no idea when he'll finish the next book.

"I don't know," admitted Martin. "I have days where I make lots of progress, I have days where I make next to no progress, I have days where I think I'm going backwards because I don't like what I wrote yesterday."

"So I've given up making any predictions on that. I'm just writing it and when it's done, it's done," he added.

The famous author has made headlines for his unique writing habits. It has been previously reported that he only writes when he's at home, and with his schedule filled with attending "Game of Thrones" events, fans have become increasingly antsy, worried that the book won't be finished anytime soon.

Moreover, those who have stayed tuned to HBO's "Game of Thrones" fear that the book's delay could affect the show's future. Also, the books' and show's fans are worried about the author's age and health. Martin is 65 years old and shows no signs of slowing down, nor has he made any announcements about the state of his health, and he begins to show signs of irritation whenever his health or age is mentioned.

"I find that question, you know, pretty offensive, frankly, when people start speculating about my death and health," he said in an interview with Swiss newspaper Tages Anzeiger.

However, Martin has revealed that he already knows the major plotlines and even how the series will end, and has shared that information with show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss so they could continue to write the series without him.

For now, anxious fans can get their hands on a new book titled "The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones" which will be launched at New York's Kaufman Concert Hall on Oct. 26. It is an illustrated book that features the full history of the Seven Kingdoms, battles, rivalries and rebellions that led to the events in the TV show. Martin contributed some content to the book, along with co-authors Elio Garcia and Linda Antonsson.
