A Thanksgiving Blessing

As I ponder on the real meaning of Thanksgiving this year I think of the original one with the Indians and Pilgrims when they gave thanks to God for His blessings and goodness. I also think of God's blessings in my personal life.

Many years ago I started a small office supply business but was dealing with a fear of failure. It was a small business.

I had a small office with a 150 square foot storage area selling office supplies. Each day was a day of fear not knowing if the sales would make the expenses. I was using a car to make deliveries. I needed a delivery truck. Fighting the fear I purchased the truck. To me it was a huge debt and the concern compounded.

Adding to the fear, the NEXT day's sale was just a 78 cent staple remover. You can imagine how I felt and what I thought. As I drove home that night I was at the stop light and thought

"78 cent staple remover. That doesn't pay many bills."

Then I said to the Lord,

"Lord, that is 78 cents more than I had yesterday. Thank you Lord for this wonderful blessing."

Five years went by and the business exploded. I went from a small office and storage area to a major multi thousand square foot office/warehouse. At times the business was so great that I asked God to slow it down because it was so overwhelming.

Driving to work one day I was at a stop light thinking on the overwhelming blessing of the business prosperity. I said:

"Why me God? Why are you blessing me so much?"

The Lord replied:

"Remember the 78 cent staple remover?"

Suprised I said:

"Yes, Lord"

He said:

"I was listening and watching you... Anyone can bless me with the great blessings but few bless me with the small blessing. If you will bless and be thankful to me for the small blessing I am confident you will be trustworthy to bless me with the great blessings."

Within two years thereafter the Lord supernaturally sold the business (that's another testimony for another day) and I semi retired for many years doing my hearts desire.

As great as that is, the greatest thing I have to be thankful for is my eternal salvation through Jesus Christ the Lord.

Happy Thanksgiving to you from the Cedars Cultural and Educational Foundation.
