'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' Trailer Debuts

"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" will arrive on the big screen in June, and the trailer has just been released, giving fans a teaser of what is to come.

The movie is based on the book of the same title, written by Seth Grahame-Smith, which was released in March 2010. His book features U.S. President Abraham Lincoln re-imagined as a vampire hunter. In his diaries, which are the basis of the book, Lincoln becomes a hunter in order to avenge his family's death.

Grahame-Smith manages to intertwine historical fact with science-fiction fantasy, and the book received a very favorable reception. It debuted at No. 4 on the New York Times best-seller list.  His other mash-up is "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," which was also a hit and reached No. 3 on the New York Times list.

Tim Burton, legendary horror producer, is one of the geniuses behind the transition from print to film. Grahame-Smith, however, was hired to write the movie's script and keep it as faithful to the book as possible. Fox will release the film in June in both 2D and 3D versions.

Benjamin Walker, son-in-law of Meryl Streep will portray Abraham Lincoln. He has previously appeared in such films as "Flags of Our Fathers," and "The War Boys." Reports state that he won the role over more well-known actors including Adrien Brody and Josh Lucas. Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been cast as Mary Todd Lincoln, and Dominic Cooper as Lincoln's vampire-hunting mentor.

When asked by The Christian Science Monitor if there would be sequels to the film, Grahame-Smith replied, "The short answer is yes, absolutely. If you read the book, there's an epilogue that leaves things open to that. In the film, without giving anything away, we don't definitively end the origin story. We leave, not only a mentor story but also possibly a Lincoln story open."
