Acer Iconia One 8: Acer's $149 Tablet

Acer recently announced that they are coming out with a new tablet with new specifications and a very attractive price tag of only $149. Called the Acer Iconia One 8, the new tablet will available in the U.S. starting July, but will be available earlier in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Retailing will start in April.

The Iconia One 8 is an 8-inch tablet, with model number B1-820, which makes it the "latest entrant in the mid-size tablet space. Despite the low price, however, the tablet is said to boast of high-end specifications, according to a report in Tech Times.

Its touch capacity is powered by Acer's Precision Plus technology, which provides users with "a highly accurate touch and writing experience," especially when it is coupled with Acer's Accurate Stylus accessory, which can be purchased separately. Users who make use of the tablet for note-taking and sketching will be happy with the tablet's specifications in this regard. Other touch tools available with the tablet also makes it easy to use with simple gestures and the quick access button.

The tablet's display will be a HD IPS screen with 1280 by 800 pixel resolution, and Zero Air Gap technology. Under the hood, it will be powered by a quad-core Intel Atom 1.83GHz processor. It will weigh at 335 grams and a thickness of 9.5 mm, which is considered sleek. Storage options will be 16GB and 32GB.

Its cameras however are what is expected for mid-range tablets: the rear camera will only be 5MP, while the front camera will only be 0.3MP. The rear camera however will be capable of taking wide angle photos (up to 88 degrees). The new tablet's battery is said to last up to 8.5 hours.

In an effort to make it more saleable, the tablet will come in 10 "attractive hues" with a "textured tartan crisscross pattern" on the back. This textured back is said to give the tablet a better grip.
