'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 4 Episode 16: Simmons Urges Fitz to Remember Her

Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) must convince Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) that they are living in an alternate reality in the upcoming episode of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." How will she do that if she is buried six feet under the ground?

The synopsis for the episode titled "What If..." is out, and according to IB Times, Simmons and Daisy (Chloe Bennet) are the only ones who know that the world is under the control of Hydra. The two of them must expose the lies and convince their S.H.I.E.L.D. members that the world they are living in is fake. During the midseason finale, Simmons and Daisy agreed to hack into AIDA's (Mallory Jansen) framework. When Daisy opened her eyes, she was lounging in a bathtub at her apartment, while her boyfriend slept in the adjacent bedroom.

Simmons, on the other hand, appeared to be dead. A glimpse of her tombstone was shown. Recent spoilers indicate, however, that she is very much alive somewhere. Simmons' job is to help Daisy expose Hydra's plans. At the same time, she must make her boyfriend, Fitz, remember her. As shown during the final minutes of the last finale, Fitz has completely changed. He was revealed to be traveling in style aboard a luxurious car, being cozy with some unnamed woman. It looks like in that alternate world, he and Simmons have never been involved.

This predicament has recently been discussed by executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen with Entertainment Weekly. According to her, the Fitz-Simmons relationship will definitely hit a rough patch. After all, Fitz was the reason why Hydra succeeded with its evil plan against S.H.I.E.L.D. If not for him, his friends would not have been sent to prison.

"That's a point we've hit quite a few times in their emotional spats together. It is something that we are going to explore even further," the EP teased.

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 episode 16 returns Tuesday, April 4 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
