Alex Trebek Burglar a Prostitute?

Lucinda Moyers, the alleged burglar accused of breaking into “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek’s hotel room, pleaded not guilty to burglary and claims she was working at the hotel as a prostitute.

Mark Jacobs, deputy public defender, said Moyers was at the Marriot Marquis the night of July 26 to meet a client and never entered Trebek’s room.

“He saw her in the hallway. There’s no one who is going to be able to testify that she was in the room,” Jacobs told SF Weekly.

According to Jacobs, Trebek saw Moyers in the hall after he had been robbed and accused her of stealing. Lucinda, who was waiting for a client, feared confrontation with security and ran.

“She said she was up there working as a prostitute,” said Jacobs. “So she didn’t want hotel security involved in her business,” wrote the SF Weekly.

Moyers is accused of stealing a wallet, a bracelet, and $650 in cash from Trebek’s room.

The “Jeopardy!” host was in San Francisco for the taping of the National Geographic World Championship at Google headquarters, when the incident occurred early Tuesday morning. The 71-year-old game show host injured his leg while chasing a burglar out of his San Francisco hotel room.

Lt. Troy Dangerfield, not directly identifying Trebek and his wife, said, “Two hotel guests were sleeping when a woman entered their room and stole a number of items, including purses.”

Jacobs said, “Ms. Moyers didn’t have any stolen property in her possession when she was arrested,” wrote The Examiner.

According to prosecutors, Moyers has a prior record for hotel thefts. She was convicted in 1990, 1991, and 1997 and spent over 12 years in jail for hotel burglary. Moyers will fall under California’s three strikes laws if she is convicted of felony burglary.

Prostitution is a misdemeanor offense and exempts her from a third strike. However, if she is convicted on the burglary charges she could be sentenced for 25 years to life.
