Amazon Fire HD 6: Specs, Features, Price

When it comes to choosing a tablet, it's a good idea to spend a little more for a device that has a better quality, which results in a better experience when using it. Many times, cheaper tablets are poorly designed, and using them can bring on a headache. However, the Amazon Fire HD 6 is one tablet that is under the $100 range that is very much a cut above other budget devices out there.

Though using the Fire HD 6 is a very different experience than using an Android or iOS tablet, some will find it easier to use and much more kid-friendly.

The tablet measure 6.7 x 4.1 x 0.4 inches and weighs 10.1 ounces. It comes in black, white, pink, blue, or yellow, and has an angled, matte plastic back. The screen has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and the size makes it ideal for reading ebooks and comics.

The HD 6 is powered by a MediaTek quad-core processor and runs on the Amazon Fire's OS 4.1 Sangria, which is based on the Android 4.4.2. With this version, separate profiles can be created for each member of the family. At the top of the screen, a menu for books, music, videos and magazines is displayed. Apps come from the Amazon app store.

The Fire HD 6 has 5.07GB of free storage and comes with ads on the screen. To add 8GB of storage, one only has to get it from Amazon for $20, and to get rid of the ads, it's another extra $15. The tablet is equipped with two cameras—a VGA front-facing and a 2MP main camera.

But ultimately, what makes the tablet so appealing is its price. The Fire HD 6 costs only $99 with free shipping within the U.S. from Amazon- not a bad price for a device that can be used by the whole family.
