'American Horror Story' Season 5 Release Date: FX Series Renewed for Season 5 and 13-Episodes in 2015

"American Horror Story" has been renewed for a fifth season. FX made the announcement on last week following the premiere of season four titled "Freak Show." The premiere was reported as the most-watched telecast in FX's 20-year history.

According to Mashable, "American Horror Story: Freak Show" garnered huge ratings as 10 million viewers tuned in to watch the premiere episode. The website reports that 6.5 million of its total viewers were in the 18-49 demographic. The ratings were up by 38 percent over the premiere of last year's "American Horror Story: Coven."

"The American Horror Story anthology has had the highest growth trajectory of any show in FX history, not to mention an unprecedented track record of success in awards recognition," said John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions.

It is expected that series regulars such as Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett and Sarah Paulson will be back for the new season, however, original cast member Jessica Lange may not be in season 5 as it has been previously reported that "Freak Show" will be her last season.

There's a chance though that fans will get to see more of Lange in season 5 as show creator Ryan Murphy said that he has been working on convincing Lange to stay on for another season. In an interview with E! Online, Murphy said, "I'm never accepting [that she will leave]."

"This is her favorite season so far," revealed the show creator. "She said that to me, she has said that publicly, that she feels really reinvigorated in some regards."

"Before, I was met with a really quick no and now I'm hearing, 'Let's keep talking.' So that's a promising sign," Murphy added.

Meanwhile, Murphy has also revealed that he already knows what Season 5 of "American Horror Story" will be. E! Online reports that there are Easter eggs for fans in the first two episodes of "Freak Show" that hint at what the next season will be. Season 5 is slated to premiere on Oct. 2015.

"American Horror Story: Freak Show" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
