Amy Winehouse Dead: Star Hoping to Adopt Young Girl Before Death

Amy Winehouse was reportedly planning to adopt a young girl from St Lucia just prior to her untimely death last week.

According to British tabloid reports Winehouse had become close to a 10-year-old girl called Dannika Augustine. According to The Sunday Mirror Augustine has said that she and her mother had developed an intimate relationship with the singer over the past two years, and because her single mother was in such difficulties Winehouse had agreed to adopt her.

Augustine told the Sunday tabloid paper: “Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me. She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone.”

The grandmother of the 10-year-old, Marjorie Lambert, had already reportedly commenced legal processes to being the adoption process.

Lambert said, “Amy used to beg me; ‘I want to adopt Dannika. I want to take her to England.’”

She added that Winehouse was even prepared to relocate to St Lucia to be her full-time adopted mother, such was her desire to adopt and help Augustine.

Lambert told The Sunday Mirror: “If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St Lucia completing the adoption process.”

She added: “There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her.”

The talented 27-year-old British singer-songwriter was found dead in her apartment in Camden, England, last week by her bodyguard. She was pronounced dead when the ambulance crew and police arrived.

Although the official cause of Winehouse’s death is still unknown, friends say that she had been binge drinking and taking ecstasy pills in the days prior to her sudden death. Winehouse had battled drug and alcohol addictions for years and has entered into rehab several times, with the latest being in May.
