A new Android 4.1, JellyBean powered tablet called the Excite 10 SE was announced by Toshiba for release this week.
The new device will be aimed at the mid-range tablet market and will feature a 10.1-inch diagonal AutoBrite HD touchscreen display.
"Our Excite family of tablets continues to grow with options to suit a wide range of consumer needs, from portability and gaming to versatility and power," Carl Pinto, vice president of marketing of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc, said in a press release.
"We designed the Excite 10 SE to be a full featured tablet that offers a pure Android, Jelly Bean experience, while maintaining an attractive price point," he added.
The tablet is slim and light at just 0.4-inches thick and weighs 22.6 ounces. It is encased with a textured Fusion Lattice finish, which Toshiba says will make it easier to hold and carry.
The device will also feature Stereo speakers with SRS Premium Voice Pro which creates an optimized audio experience for users watching videos or listening to users on the device, according to Toshiba. They will also provide users with a greater clarity for video chatting on the tablet's HD front-facing camera.
Specifications on the Toshiba Excite SE also include Nvidia's Tegra 3 chipset, featuring four Cortex-A9 CPU cores, a 3-megapixel rear camera with HD recording, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity, and microSD card slots.
The new Toshiba tablet is expected to retail for $349.99 for the 16GB version.
The Excite 10 SE will ship on Dec. 6 at select retailers and direct from Toshiba at ToshibaDirect.com on the same day.
Toshiba's new Excite comes in at a price point lower that the iPad, which could make it appealing to those looking to purchase a 10-inch tablet without spending an arm and a leg.
