Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Update on HTC One M8: Update Rolling Out for HTC's 2014 Flagship

Aside from Samsung's Galaxy S5, HTC's well-received 2014 flagship unit, the HTC One M8, is also receiving the newest Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update.

The newest OS update from Google would only be made available for the Developer and Unlocked editions of the M8, Daily Tech reported.

Confirming the news is HTC's Product Management Vice President Mo Versi, who went to his social media this week to announce the update.

"HTC One (M8) Unlock and Dev Owners! We have received TA from Google on Lollipop + Sense 6. OTA will be out starting tonight. #HTCAdvantage," Versi's Twitter post reads.

A report from IBTimes pointed out that the popular mobile software developer team Cyanogen is also rolling out an Android Lollipop custom ROM CM12 milestone series to the HTC One M8.

The version, as the site stated, is part of the Android Open Project (AOSP) 5.0.2 Lollipop.

The site however noted that the "nightly version" is still unstable and might still have some un-tested bugs in it.

Providing more information, the website posted a link to where M8 owners can download the CyanogenMod [Official] Android 5.0.2 Lollipop CM12 custom ROM Nightly.

Here is the download link.

In its basic form, the new Lollipop update offers a whole new range of improvements, according to Daily Tech, which include:

  • Material Design guidelines
  • Multiple pages support of apps in multi-tasking pane
  • Tap & Go features
  • Heads-up style notifications
  • Lock-screen notifications
  • Much improved security/encryption options
  • MirrorLink support and more others.
