Apple iPad Mini 2 vs Google Nexus 7: Comparison of Specs, Features, Price

When people complained that the original iPad Mini's screen wasn't clear and sharp enough, Apple responded by releasing the Apple iPad Mini 2 less than one year after its predecessor. Now equipped with a Retina display, it's obviously a better device than the original version.

Meanwhile, Google was not about to rest on its laurels as it launched its Nexus 7. Touted to rival Apple's tablets, many became a fan of this device not only for its performance, but for its more affordable price.

Here's a comparison between the Apple iPad Mini 2 and the Google Nexus 7.

Design:
The new iPad Mini comes in silvery white and space gray and it measures 7.87 x 5.3 x 0.29 inches and weighs 11.68 ounces. The Nexus 7 sports a very simple design and is only available in black and the back has a smooth matte finish. It measures 7.9 x 4.5 x 0.34 inches and weighs 10.05 ounces.

Features:
The Apple slate has a larger display at 7.9 inches with an outstanding resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. When placed side by side with its predecessor, one will notice that the Mini 2 has better color and picture quality. Meanwhile, the Nexus 7 has a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The screen is very bright and easily readable even in direct sunlight.

The iPad Mini 2 is powered by the Apple 7 processor and runs on the Apple iOS, while the Nexus 7 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad Core processor and runs on Android 4.3.

For storage capacity, the Apple device is available in 16GB and 32GB variants, while the Nexus slate is only available in the 16GB model.

Both devices have a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 1.2MP front shooter.

Price:
The Google Nexus 7 costs $220, while the iPad Mini 2 starts at $300.
