'Aquaman' Movie News: Will Creative Differences Push James Wan to Drop 'Aquaman' Directorial Job, Too?

After the news saying that novelist and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith has thrown in the towel and left his "The Flash" movie directorial job, rumor has it that "Aquaman" movie director James Wan will follow suit.

According to reports, Grahame-Smith left "The Flash" movie due to creative conflicts. With this, he now join the ranks of those who earlier departed from their respective creative roles in the DC movies, namely "Wonder Woman" movie original director Michelle McLaren and "Sandman" director Joseph Gordon Levitt, both of whom left for the same reason: creative differences.

Unconfirmed reports claim that Wan has become uneasy with the process of adapting "Aquaman" into a big screen feature as he does only want to build the character as someone who is badass but also aims at redeeming the entire DC Extended Universe (DCEU). However, with the reported conflict going on between "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" director Zack Snyder and executive studios over the creative aspects of DCEU, it is believed that Warner Bros. and DCEU's direction is still unclear at this point in time.

Just last month, Wan praised Snyder for giving him the freehand despite being the one in charge of the overall creative aspect of the DCEU, to which the upcoming "Aquaman" movie belongs.

"Well, I think the story that I would like to tell is still at the end of the day my story. And that's what's cool with Zack, is that he's actually very respectful of that. He's actually helping me out in some ways with certain things that he's doing with his (films) so that I can have better groundwork with the standalone Aquaman story," he said in an interview with Cinema Blend.

With his rumored departure from "Aquaman," fans can only wonder if the heavily criticized Snyder has a hand on Wan's rumored decision to drop the project, too.

"Aquaman" is slated for a July 27, 2018 release.
