Ashley Madison hack update: List shows Alabama as the adultery capital of the US

It's been over a month already since the Ashley Madison hack issue exploded all over the Internet, making its way to tabloid headlines. And even until now, it continues to do so because the news about it keeps getting worse and worse. Just recently reports revealed that the state of Alabama had the highest levels of credit card activity on the extra-marital cheating website Ashley Madison among all 50 states.

It was determined after a Reddit user grabbed information from the leaked data dump that contains essential details like addresses and emails of those who signed up for the scandalous website, according to Daily Mail. Basing on the number of dollars spent by the Ashley Madison users per state capita, the Reddit user jpopham91 was able to put together a list claiming to reveal the most adulterous states in the US.

As shown in the bar graph statistics, Alabama is followed by a long shot by Colorado, followed by Washington D.C. and then New Jersey. International Business Times reports that because of the very high level of usage, even the mayor of Harselle in Morgan County, Don Hall, was associated to the online dating service marketed to married people. Decatur Daily reported that the mayor denied visiting the site and said that he has no explanation as to why his name is on the list.

Business Journal also revealed that email addresses from several domains representing Alabama governments and agencies were found in the breached data. The source noted that the Alabama agency that had the most registered users came from alacop.gov, which is a web portal for all Alabama law enforcement agencies. Other domains that originate from Alabama include the Huntsvilleal.gov (Huntsville City), doeal.gov (the Alabama Department of Energy) and ema.alabama.gov (Alabama Emergency Management Agency).

However, the reports about Alabama being the adultery capital does not surprise William K. Bradford, a partner at Bradford Ladner law firm in Mountain Brook, Alabama. He said that state holds a history of high divorce rates.
