Atheist Richard Dawkins Sued for Libel by 'Attempted Murder of God' Author

Richard Dawkins is being sued by author Chris McGrath for libel after the Richard Dawkins Foundation website posted reviews bashing a book published by the author.

McGrath self-published the book titled The Attempted Murder of God: Hidden Science You Really Need to Know. The author is also suing Vaughan Jones, an Amazon reviewer, for panning his book, according to a Telegraph report.

McGrath published the book under the name “Scrooby” and claims Jones wrote numerous reviews criticizing the book on Amazon in September and October 2010. McGrath also said the Richard Dawkins Foundation posted a review written by Jones on its’ website.

McGrath is suing Dawkins, the Richard Dawkins Foundation, Jones and Amazon for libel.

The reviews were removed once legal action was taken.

Jones, 28, has three children and will defend himself, as he cannot afford legal representation. The hearing will begin on Thursday and is expected to last for two days.

McGrath said his book was a parody of the argument over the existence of God rather than a scientific proof for God’s existence.

Richard Dawkins is a world famous biologist and one of the most recognized atheistic figures in the world today.

Last month, Dawkins made headlines when he said Jesus would have been an atheist.

"Jesus was a great moral teacher...somebody as intelligent as Jesus would have been an atheist if he had known what we know today," said Dawkins in an interview with The Guardian.
