Aside from Barcelona, Atletico are also trying to keep Real Madrid at bay as their local rivals are only one point behind them in third place.
With the race at the top so tight, each point is important and Atletico know that a big win over Bilbao can help them maintain their place.
Looking at their form, Atletico have won their last three league games as they thrashed Real Betis 5-1, beat Espanyol 3-1 and dominated Granada 3-0 at home.
But it will be a tough task for them as they will face Bilbao who have only lost once in their last eight games in the league.
They may be far from the title race as they sit fifth in the league, but Bilbao still have a chance of reaching the UEFA Champions League places as they are only six points behind Villarreal at the moment. They are also tied with Celta de Vigo in points as they two teams occupy the UEFA Europa League places.
The last meeting between the two teams resulted in a 2-1 win for Atletico Madrid but expect an intense battle between the two this time.
