Many expected this series to be a long and drawn out battle between two hungry teams and it seems to be shaking up to be one of the more intensely contested games.

In the first game, Atlanta got the victory 102-101 as they outlasted the Celtics.

Atlanta was in control for most of the game as they kept Boston's offence at bay as they dominated the first quarter to lead 30-19.

It was much of the same thing in the second period as Atlanta's defence held strong and only allowed the Celtics 15 points as the Hawks built a 51-34 lead by halftime.

However, in typical Celtics fashion, they never gave up and bounced back in the second half, beating the Hawks by 10 points in the third quarter to eventually cut the lead to only seven with the final quarter to play.

And in the final quarter, Boston continued to put the pressure on the hosts as they inched closer, eventually finding ways to cut the lead down to four points with only a few seconds remaining.

And Isaiah Thomas shot a late three as time winded down to put the Celtics within one with only 0.4 left in the clock, but it was too late as the Hawks secured the first win of the season.

Even worse, Avery Bradley got injured in the game and is likely to be out for Game 2 for the Celtics.

However, they should try to find an answer to bounce back and steal a game in Atlanta before heading home for the next two games.
