'Attack on Titan' Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers: Directors Tease More Action, Horses, Character Development
Fans have had to wait a long time for the second season of the Japanese anime "Attack on Titan." With an April release imminent, season 2 directors Araki Tetsuro and Koizuka Masashi sat down with Newtype Magazine to talk about what is to come.
Translated by the Fukushuu Tumblr account, Araki and Koizuka teased that the upcoming season will be packed with action scenes.
"Our hearts are quite stirred," Araki said. "The stage has changed a bit. During season 1 there were more battles on the city streets. But once the setting morphs, the strategy and presentation will evolve as well," Koizuka added.

Moreover, the two directors also revealed that they had to draw and animate more horses this time around. It will not be all action, though. As Koizuka stated, characters who were previously not given a lot of screen time will have the spotlight in the new season. This took a lot of work on their part, though, since they wanted to incorporate their roles into the story smoothly.
Season 2 was more demanding in terms of effort and resources. Araki revealed that they required a ton of film rolls in order to accomplish everything they wanted.
Manga creator Hajime Isayama revealed last month that he was more involved in the making of the second season than the first. This was confirmed again by the two directors, and they added that there will be scenes in the anime series that are not in the manga.
"There are portions he wasn't able to include in the manga that he permitted us to incorporate into the anime adaptation," Araki revealed in the Newtype magazine interview. "On top of that, there are also other new elements Isayama-sensei really wished to see that we could now fulfill."
The excitement is high for the highly popular Japanese anime series. In December, Funimation gifted fans with the official trailer, which featured a glimpse at the new Titans that will be wreaking havoc.
"Attack on Titan" season 2 will premiere in April.
