At least three people have been reported killed after shots broke out Saturday night at University Heights in Alabama. What began as a fist fight, according to reports, quickly escalated into a shooting between men who may have been complete strangers.

Turquorius Vines, 23, attended a pool party at the University Heights, an apartment complex near Auburn University, where the shooting occurred. Vines reported that two other men approached him over an unnamed girl, according to Mail Online.

Vines proceeded by punching one of the men; his friend hit both men over the head with a bottle. Uncertain then of which man took the first shot, Vines told the Daily Mail that either one or both of the men began shooting. Vines claimed to have never seen the men before.

Among those reported dead are two former members of the Auburn football team according to reports: Ed Christian, ranked 18th among offensive tackles by ESPN.com and LaDarius Phillips, a four year starter who played multiple positions.

"It's like I lost a lung," Vines told Mail Online, of his friend. "I don't know how I'm going to survive this."

Emergency officials responded immediately to the scene, which remains blocked off by yellow crime tape. A tent has been erected for forensic investigation as police continue on the search to gather more information about the crime. Few official details have been released. The shooter may still be at large according to Mail Online, although no information regarding the suspects can be released until further investigation has been concluded.

Auburn is a public university in Alabama with over 25,000 students. The current football coach is Gene Chizik; past NFL graduates of the university include Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers. The school won its second national championship at the 2011 BCS National Championship Game against Oregon.
