'Avatar' Sequels News, Update: Music Composer James Horner Reveals 4 Films Underway

James Cameron's record-breaking 3D science fiction film "Avatar" continues to hold the honor of being the highest grossing movie of all time. It wasn't really much of a surprise when Cameron announced that he'll be making sequels for the said title and perhaps breaks his own record again.

Earlier reports indicated that the director and deep-sea enthusiast has been spending much of his time making not one but three sequels which will come out consecutively in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

But recent reports now indicated that the franchise may go up to 2020.

"Avatar" composer and long-time Cameron collaborator, James Horner, speaking to the people of HeyUGuys.

It was revealed in the interview that the Canadian filmmaker actually has four movies in mind to follow up his 2009 hit film.

"Right now, Jim has got four sequels, script-wise, and he's trying to make it into three. And that's where his effort is going, right now, to keep it to three sequels. Because he's got so much going on. How do you keep it from expanding into yet a fourth movie—a fifth movie, I guess, total. He'll get that sorted out," Horner told IGN.

Cameron previously expressed his enthusiasm in telling stories about his created Na'Vi world and the "Avatar" universe as a whole.

"There's nothing I need to say as an artist about the state of the world and human affairs that I can't do through the lens of the Avatar universe," Cameron said in an interview. "We've had a couple of years to think through the story arc of the next three films, and every day that goes by, I believe in the stories I'm telling more and more."
