'Awkward' season 5 not the end of the story after all?

There were reports that the high school comedy "Awkward" will be ending for good after the finale episode of its fifth season, but it seems that the MTV series still has a long way to go before it bows out.

In Awkward season 5, high school is about to end, and this would mean the characters would be taking their final bow. But the final episodes of the season suggest that the story line would still continue to show the characters' life after they graduate, according to Realty Today.

While Mstarz previously reported that Awkward will be saying good-bye, the show's executive producer said otherwise.

"In terms of it being the end, it might not be. We don't know about that we were just feeling like 5A is the end of the high school chapter of the show, and 5B is a whole new reboot of the show," the producer said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter (THR). "We finished shooting 5B in July, and we're really excited about how that came out… It opens a lot of doors, so this may not be the end of the show."

Showrunners Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini also old THR about what the viewers should expect in Awkward season 5. Chessler said it will feature two prom episodes and their graduation night. He teased about "some fun stuff" that the characters will encounter, the report relays.

Alberghini said the season will feature the characters' "freedom" during their senior year. He added that there will be lots of major milestones that fans ought to witness.

Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards) and her schoolmates from Palos Hills High School will be struggling to figure out their future after graduation. All of them will be forced to contemplate each other's importance. Chessler and Alberghini also shared that the relationship between Hamilton and Matty (Beau Mirchoff) will still be one of the central themes of Awkward's fifth season, the report details.

Awkward season 5 will begin airing on Aug. 31 at 9 p.m. on MTV.
