Aziz Ansari Enjoying Career High

Comedian and actor Aziz Ansari is enjoying the highest point of his career with “Thirty Minutes or Less” currently in theaters, and his current role on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation.” He also appears in the video for “Otis,” the hit song off of Jay Z and Kanye West’s collaborative album, “Watch the Throne.”

Released Friday, “30 Minutes or Less” features Ansari as Chet, a substitute teacher and best friend to pizza delivery driver Nick, played by “The Social Network” actor Jesse Eisenberg. Nick and Chet are forced to rob a bank in ten hours when Dwayne, “East Bound & Down” actor Danny McBride, threatens them with a fake bomb. The comedy earned $13 million in the U.S. and is expected to do better in its second week.

“Parks and Recreation” debuted in 2009, and has received NBC’s green light for a fourth season this year. Emmy nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, the show uses improvisation and is filmed in a “mockumentary” style- where fictitious events are presented in a documentary format. Comedian Amy Poehler stars alongside Ansari and Rashida Jones.

In the music video for “Otis,” Ansari is seen dancing while Jay Z and Kanye West use a chain saw and a blow torch on a Maybach vehicle. The actor wrote on his Twitter account that working on the set of the video was “crazy fun.”

“Best part was when a catering dude came to set with a plate of sandwiches… Caterer: Turkey or roast beef sandwich? Jay Z: You got any peanut butter & jelly up in there?” he said in a tweet.

Ansari is best known for his role in Judd Apatow’s “Funny People” with Adam Sandler, as well as for films “I Love You, Man” costarring Paul Judd, and “Get Him to the Greek” with Russell Brand.

While attending NYU’s Stern School of Business, Ansari jumpstarted his comedy career by doing stand-up circuits in New York City. In 2007, he created and starred in the MTV sketch comedy show “Human Giant,” which earned critical acclaim.

The South Carolina native hosted the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, and has also appeared on HBO’s series “Flight of the Concords.”
