'Baby Doe' mystery news: Isotope analysis sees development in abandoned girl's case

The results for a new round of testing have been released and are getting "another piece in a large puzzle," as authorities continue the search for justice for the young girl found dead inside a trash bag in an island in the Boston Harbor shores.

Nicknamed "Baby Doe" by authorities, the girl, approximately 4 years old, was found by a dog walker on June 25, her body stashed inside a trash bag, along with polka-dotted leggings and a zebra print blanket.

According to ABC News, preliminary results from isotope analysis show that the girl may have traveled in several New England states and other U.S. areas. Massachusetts State Police said on Tuesday that further testing will be needed, in order to determine if Baby Doe spent time in other countries aside from those mentioned.

Isotope analysis compares oxygen isotopes to that from hair and teeth with drinking water levels, and according to Massachusetts State Police spokesman Dave Procopio, the results from Baby Doe's testing represent "another piece in a large puzzle that we're still assembling."

"We're trying to put all these pieces together. Trying to get a picture of her life ... and by learning about how she lived, hopefully we'll be able to focus our efforts to identify her on specific areas, and learn the circumstances of how she died," Procopio added.

In the local police's Facebook page, a computer-generated composite image of the girl has been shared thousands of times in hopes of identifying the abandoned brown-eyed girl.

Earlier last month, state police revealed that pollen found in the girl's clothes and body suggest that she died somewhere in the area, slamming other theories that imply she might have washed up into the Deer Island shores from another area.

Procopio noted that while science can provide breakthroughs in the case, such as narrow down certain places that Baby Doe has reached, getting to the bottom of who she is still needs someone to tell the authorities her name, which, will be the biggest piece toward solving her death mystery.
