'Bad Teacher' to CBS, Film Adapted to Series

"Bad Teacher" is coming to CBS as a television series, the network announced Wednesday. The 2011 comedy film starring Cameron Diaz will be adapted into a sitcom of the same title.

"Bad Teacher" will star Ari Graynor, the actress best known for her role on HBO's "The Sopranos." Graynor is set to portray the same character that Cameron Diaz played in the film version.

CBS described Graynor's character as "inappropriate, fearless and unapologetic former trophy wife who masquerades as a teacher in order to find a new man after her wealthy husband leaves her penniless."

The cast includes "Sex and the City" star Kristin Davis, Ryan Hansen, David Alan Grier and Sarah Gilbert.

CBS picked up 13 episodes of "Bad Teacher" and the series is expected to premiere sometime in the middle of the fall season.

"Bad Teacher" marks the ninth new series set to premiere on CBS. The network announced some huge names headed to the small screen including Robin Williams, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Will Arnett, Brooklyn Decker Anna Faris, Allison Janney and Tony Shalhoub.

"Our team has 20 shows renewed … Having this sort of stability makes us really excited," Leslie Moonves, CBS president and CEO, told CBS News. "All I can tell you is the network is alive and healthy."

Moonves noted that comedy is a "priority" for CBS, in addition to "more originals, fewer repeats."

Among the television shows returning to CBS are "The Big Bang Theory," "Mike & Molly," "2 Broke Girls," and the final season of "How I Met Your Mother."

CBS pulled Monday's finale episode of "Mike & Molly" due to the content that related to the latest tornado tragedy in Oklahoma.

The mile-wide tornado believed to be an EF-4 or EF-5 pulverized suburbs of Oklahoma City on Monday, leveling structures with estimated 200 mph winds.
