DC's upcoming superhero blockbuster offering "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" still has a year to go before it opens in theatres. However, recent news indicated that production for the film has already been completed and is now on its post-production phase.

Aside from the two titular DC superheroes, the upcoming title is also slated to feature one of the comic book's super heroines, Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot.

Gadot, the Israeli actress and supermodel, is also slated for a standalone movie about the demigoddess, which will be released after "Batman v Superman."

The 29-year-old star said taking up the role of the Amazonian was a dream come true for her.

"Playing Wonder Woman is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I can't describe to you how much I wanted to play this character without even knowing I wanted to play her," she told Israel-based media site YNetNews. "I met a lot of people from the industry in LA for meetings. They always asked me 'what's your dream role?', and I never could define it."

"I don't want to play a damsel in distress that needs to be saved. I don't like it when women in the movies are shown as the victims. I always thought that if I could send out a message, I want to show the strong side of a woman and how she can handle tough situations," Gadot explained.

"I get to play the strongest most empowering woman ever – Wonder Woman. I'm so grateful and I thank God every day. I want to devour it and enjoy every bite," the 2004 Miss Universe pageant entrant added.

Gadot will be appearing with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, who will play the titular roles.

"Batman v Superman" arrives on cinemas March 25, 2016.
