It will feature an all-star cast and tell the story of an international naval fleet forced into battle.

Grammy award-winning singer Rihanna, Canadian actor Taylor Kitsch, True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard and Oscar nominated actor Liam Neeson round out the acting credits.

Berg filmed the action-packed movie from two perspectives-- the humans fighting for their planet and the alien “Regents” who arrive on earth to battle them. After its debut, the film trailer received mixed reactions on twitter.

Although the pop-singer only made a quick cameo in the trailer, Rihanna took to her twitter to express her excitement for the film.

“Can't wait to see Battleship trailer on Yahoo,” the singer tweeted.

She told MTV last fall about the experience of shooting her first film.

“Working with [director] Peter Berg is unbelievable," she told MTV. "I love doing movies now. It's something I want to do more of. I just want to pick films that are wise for me and roles that I can pull off, nothing that is too big for me."

However writer and director James Gunn had a different reaction to the movie.

“That Battleship trailer is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen,” Gunn tweeted on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, the film cost $200 million to create. Although it was initially filmed on Australia’s Gold Coast in 2010, issues with the country’s government tax caused a delay in the movie and relocation to Louisiana, California and Hawaii according to the National Academy of Sciences.
