Bindi Irwin- 'Cover Up,' Teen Star Tells Young Girls

Bindi Irwin wants fellow teenagers to cover up and dress their own age, especially in a society where less skin is more. The teen came under fire for her comments, but remains true to her message that by dressing their own age, other teens will be better off for it.

"I'm a big advocate for young girls dressing their age," Irwin told News Limited of Australia. "I mean, for me, I look around at a lot of young girls that are my age and they're always trying to dress older. Whether it's wearing revealing clothes or hardly wearing any clothes at all. I feel bad for them. It kind of has the opposite effect in some ways. It kind of does the opposite where it makes you look younger and like you're trying too hard."

Irwin has become an international superstar following the death of her father, Steve, in 2006. Since then, she has almost taken his position on animal activism and even on TV. She's had several series on TV, growing up before the public's eyes. But she has also managed to keep some of her normal childhood, thanks to her mother's watchful eye.

"A lot of times, I want to grab these girls and say, 'Look, in 10 years you'll regret this, just dress like who you are. Don't try so hard. A pair of jeans and a T-shirt is just as gorgeous and even makes you look classier,'" Irwin said.

She turns 16 next month, a reminder of how fast time has gone. However, not everyone was impressed by Irwin's mature stance. Former actress Caitlin Stasey took to Twitter to slam Irwin's opinion before finally agreeing that there may be some truth to what Irwin said.

"Open letter to bindi, in ten years you'll wish you stood beside your shared sex rather than be proud you belittled their choices & agency," Stacey initially tweeted. "An opinion is an opinion is an opinion, and one aired publicly encourages discourse. People listen to her, the media is championing her," she later added.
