The first Blade Runner saw the talents of the legendary director of photography Jordan Cronenweth. Through his camera works and Ridley Scott's directorship, the 1982 neo-noir dystopian science fiction film was catapulted to become one of the genre's iconic titles.

The film, which saw the acts of Harrison Ford as retired police officer Rick Deckard, was revered not only for its thematic elements but also for its striking visual design, the site wrote.

"It's a daunting task, coming up with a sequel to a movie that's achieved 'classic' status like that, but so far the combination of Villeneuve and Deakins has yielded strong results – something that bodes wells for Blade Runner 2, simply on its own terms as a new venture into the world partially established by Scott," Screen Rant reported.

Deakins received 12 Oscar Award nominations from his works starting from "The Shawshank Redemption" to "No Country for Old Men."

The filmmaker is also set to receive the prestigious Pierre Angenieux Excellens in Cinematography Award for this year's Cannes Film Festival.

His works with the Coen brothers (Joel David and Ethan Jesse) including "Fargo" and "True Grit" had also earned nods from critics.

As for the "Blade Runner" sequel, the title is said to begin production in the summer of 2016 and is reported to see Ford reprising his iconic role. Script, which details were kept under wraps, was writer by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green.
