Boxing News 2016: Oscar De La Hoya Reacts To Floyd Mayweather's Racism Comments

Six-division world boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya has something to say about the cries of racism by retired undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

In a late-December interview with Fight Hype, "Money May" was vocal about what he feels is racially discriminating towards African American fighters.

He then questioned why fight fans were all praises for UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor when he uses trash talking to promote himself and his fight, but when Mayweather himself did it for his own self-promotion purposes, he was often branded as "arrogant" and "cocky."

"The Notorious" responded to Mayweather through a lengthy Facebook post, by first stating that race should not be brought up in the conversation since McGregor himself experienced prejudice as a race, tracing to his Irish roots.

He then ended his tirade towards Floyd Jr. by challenging him to a fight, with an 80/20 purse split in favor of McGregor.

According to the mixed martial arts world champion, it is only a fair deal, given Mayweather's last fight against Andre Berto did not do well in pay-per-views numbers.

Recently, De La Hoya also offered his response to Mayweather's comments. In a report by Miguel Rivera for Boxingscene.com, "The Golden" Boy says racism does not exist in the sport, noting that whether a fighter holds a world championship title or not, he or she can only be loved or hated by fans.

He then went on to give his take on why he thinks a huge chunk of fight fans are more on the hating side when it comes to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"Look, if you're going to run and not provide the people with a show, you are not going to be wanted," De La Hoya said. "But if you're going to knock people out and give the people a show, the people will worship you and racism has nothing to do with it."
