Brad Pitt Envies Matt Damon, Who Can Walk His Kids to School

Matt Damon recently opened up about the challenges of being famous and even compared his celebrity to that of Brad Pitt.

The Academy Award-winning actor, who is a longtime friend of Pitt's, opened up about the occasional lack of "control" over how famous one can become and how it affects celebrity's lives.

"If you can control the celebrity side of celebrity, then it's worth it," said Damon speaking to Esquire magazine.

While the 42-year-old star is able to conduct a normal life despite his fame, Damon went on to ponder the extremes the media goes through for Pitt.

"I look at Brad Pitt- and I have for years- and when I'm with him I see the intensity of that other side of it," Damon explained to the magazine. "And the paparazzi and the insane level of aggression they have and their willingness to break the law and invade his space- well, I wonder about that trade."

Furthermore, the "Bourne Supremacy" star recounted a conversation he had with Pitt.

"I remember telling [Brad] that I walk my kids to school, and his face just fell," said Damon. "He was very kind, but he was like, 'You bastard.' Because he should be able to do that too. And he can't."

Meanwhile, Pitt shares six children with fiancée Angelina Jolie.

Alternately, Damon has been married to Argentina-born Luciana Bozan Barroso for 13 years. The couple shares four daughters, including one daughter from Barroso's previous marriage.

Damon noted that his level of fame is different from Pitt's due to his marrying a "civilian" while Pitt is with high-profile actress Jolie.

"I got lucky, I fell in love with a civilian," the actor joked of his non-famous wife. "Not an actress and not a famous actress at that. Because then the attention does double- it grows exponentially. Because then suddenly everybody wants to be in your bedroom."

Even so, while Damon did not marry a famous actress, the actor also admitted he intentionally avoids capturing the interest of the media.

"I don't really give them anything," he told Esquire.

"They can try to stake me out, but they're always going to get the same story- middle-aged married guy with four kids," the actor added. "So as long as that narrative doesn't change too much, there's no appetite for it."

Damon is not the only actor to comment on how the media affects the lives of celebrities. This week, Ryan Reynolds explained his refusal to discuss his relationship with wife Blake Lively.

"If you ask me to describe my relationship, I mean- words are too clumsy to accurately describe how I feel in that regard, particularly in an interview," said the "Green Hornet" star while speaking to Details Magazine.

"I understand the climate we live in and why people are curious," he added. "But it's just tough and almost emotionally violent- for anyone, I think- to see your personal life summarized in a sentence."
