Fielding's new book revealed that Jones is a widowed mother of two children. The story begins at Jones's life five years after the death of her husband, Mark Darcy.

Furthermore, "Mad About the Boy" follows Jones as a 50-something-year-old who is dating a younger man named Roxster.

Written in the form of a personal diary, the extract reveals Jones struggling over a decision to bring her boyfriend to a party.

"Crucially, it might put Roxster off me- to be surrounded by old people at a sixtieth birthday party, and make some sort of completely unnecessary point about how old I am though of course I am MUCH younger than Talitha. And frankly, I refuse to believe how old I actually am," she wrote, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Fielding first published "Bridget Jones's Diary" in 1996, but the story gained international appeal once it was made into a movie. The big-screen adaptation was released in 2001 and starred Renee Zellwegger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant.

Based on the book, the film followed Zellwegger as Bridget-- an unlucky in love thirty-something Londoner. After getting romantically involved with her boss, Daniel Cleaver (Grant), and several misunderstandings and mishaps later, Bridget finally reaches an understanding and happiness with top lawyer Mark Darcy (Firth).

Its sequel, "The Edge of Reason," hit theaters in 2004, garnering an impressive $262 million worldwide.

Today, "Bridget Jones" fans are sounding off on the death of Mark Darcy via Twitter.

Chloe posted, "One word for Helen Fielding: Why?!"

"Gutted to hear that Mark Darcy gets killed off in the new Bridget Jones," Lesley added.

Meanwhile, there is also frenzy over the possibility of a third sequel to the big-screen adaptation of "Bridget Jones's Diary."

Last year, Universal and Working Title production announced that a third sequel to "Bridget Jones' Diary" was in the making, with both Renee Zellwegger and Colin Firth set to reprise their roles as Bridget and Mark.

Firth has previously addressed a third installment to "Bridget Jones," including information about the plot.

"I can tell you that Bridget and Mark can't have children, I think that's the way it goes," he told Entertainment Weekly in 2011. "So then she makes the huge mistake of going back to Daniel Cleaver for long enough to get pregnant, and I think he dumps her, and she's left stranded. And guess who comes back to rescue her?"
