'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 4 Updates, Previews and Spoilers: The Squad to Take on the Night Shift; Crossover Episode with 'New Girl' Happening

It's the best of two worlds for the next episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." The much-anticipated crossover between the cop comedy show and "New Girl" will finally be happening next week.

Coral Palms Part 3 Recap

The third episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Season 4 finally sees Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Captain Ray Holt (Andre Baugher) reunited with their original unit. In the previous episode, the duo has created a bait for their fugitive rival, Jimmy Figgis (Eric Roberts). The two are still stuck in Coral Palms, Florida, where their marshal has been abducted by the criminal mastermind.

As the two were thrown into jail for being caught with firearms, they are now set to face Figgis unarmed. They call on their usual police gang in the New York 99th Precinct for help. Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio), Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz), Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), and Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) immediately arrive to aid Jake and Holt, along with the uncanny duo of Scully and Hitchcock (Joel McKinnon Miller and Dirk Blocker).

During their escape, Holt had his leg impaled on a metal pipe, prompting him to stay behind with Gina who was taking care of him. The rest of the group then go on to set a trap for Figgis in the Fun Zone arcade. Everything was going exactly as planned, until the local sheriff showed up to foil their scheme. Figgis almost gets away. However, Gina and Holt arrive driving a truck, impeding what would have been the escape of Figgis.

Amy and Jake, reunited at last after several months, share a kiss and resumes their relationship. The whole squad goes back to their precinct, only to be sanctioned with a penalty after defying a direct command from the substitute, Captain C.J. (Ken Marino). The punishment is that they will all be working on the night shift.

The Night Shift

The fourth episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Season 4, titled "The Night Shift", will see the squad carrying on their punishment. However, this is also the crossover episode with fellow FOX comedy television show "New Girl", where Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) will be visiting the NYPD 99th Precinct.

Aside from Jess, the crossover trailer also shows other "New Girl" regulars, including Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) in the episode. The episode will see Jake taking on his first case back in the precinct, enlisting the help of Jess.

The storyline of the crossover episode will be concluding on "New Girl". Meanwhile, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Episode 4 will be airing on Tuesday, October 11, at 8 p.m. on FOX. "New Girl" will then be airing immediately after.
