A representative for Bruno Mars has responded to rumors and reports that the singer had "come out of the closet" on Tuesday.

The agent said that the story which appeared on an unnamed site was "false" and "completely fabricated."

The CNN iReport claimed that Mars had admitted being gay during an interview with a Chicago radio station on April 1, possibly as an April Fool's Day joke.

"The timing is bad," Mars was quoted to have said during the interview. "I hadn't realized it was April Fool's Day, but it's been pointed out to me, and I don't want to go too public with this."

CNN iReport is a media outlet that consists of "citizen journalists" from around the world and has since deleted the story, which saw the headline, "Bruno Mars comes out of the closet."

"The famous pop-star Bruno Mars admits his homosexuality," read the report.
