'Call of Duty' 2017 News: Sledgehammer Games Studio Head Expresses Excitement Over Upcoming Game

Activision previously noted next 'Call of Duty' game will take franchise 'back to its roots'

The next "Call of Duty" game expected to come out later this year is already drawing plenty of attention from gamers, and developers are starting to drop hints about it as well.

Just a few days ago, Sledgehammer Games studio head and co-founder Glen Schofield took to Twitter to tease the upcoming game further.

While Schofield wasn't able to reveal specific details just yet, he did note that "there are boots and ground" included in the game.

On top of that, Schofield also teased that "some roots" may also be present.

That last little tease from Schofield may be a reference to Activision's earlier comments related to this upcoming "Call of Duty" game.

Over the course of an earlier earnings call, the publisher offered some hints regarding this new offering, indicating that it is set to take the first-person shooter franchise "back to its roots," IGN reported.

Activision provided some more details, revealing that "traditional combat will once again take center stage."

The move to bring the franchise "back to its roots" and again put more emphasis on "traditional combat" seems to be a response to how "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" did last year. That first-person shooter wasn't exactly received well by fans and Activision acknowledged that too, noting that its "space setting didn't resonate."

Earlier rumors swirling around the upcoming game were already hinting that it may look more towards the past as opposed to the future when it came to what setting it could ultimately feature, and the comments from Activision haven't really done anything to indicate that those may be off base.

In any case, fans will still have to wait a bit more before this next "Call of Duty" game is released, as similar to recent installments of the franchise, it is also expected to come out in November.
