'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' Release Date and Updates: 'Salvation' DLC Out This September 6; New Maps and Gameplay

No need to fear; Salvation is here.

The upcoming final installation to Infinity Ward and Treyarch's "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" is set to be released this coming September 3. Aptly titled "Salvation," the game will bring the eight-year Zombie saga to a satisfying conclusion.

Beginning with "Call of Duty: World at War" in 2007, we've since seen some of its most popular games worldwide such as "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" and "Black Ops."

According to Mark Lamia, Treyarch studio head, the last DLC installation is one of the most "epic" seasons and is sure to bring an exciting and defining gaming experience for the franchise's fans all over the globe.

What to expect from "Salvation"

According to its plot preview, the game will follow Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo and Nikolai through space and time before they go head-to-head versus the mysterious Dr. Monty. For the last time, they will have to battle against the zombie horde to save their immortal souls.

Jason Blundell, Treyarch's executive producer, said in a previous interview with Gamespot that the last DLC will be an "epic journey" that will bring a satisfying and emotional ending to the series, adding that "Salvation" will also be addressing some loose ends left in "Black Ops 2."

He's referring to the video ending of "Black Ops 2" where Samantha and a boy named Edward were being called into the basement by a mysterious voice (probably Max's). The two characters said they wished their heroes were real before the screen cut to black.

'Revelations' and new maps

The last storyline, "Revelations", already has a video prologue released and will also include four multiplayer maps - two new, two reimagined versions of previous Treyarch maps.

There's a mid-sized Citadel, an ancient castle that was once home to a powerful medieval army and is perfect for close-combat engagements; Micro, a miniature war zone that takes place on a family picnic table; Outlaw, a rough mid-sized reimagining of the Standoff map from "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" for long and medium-ranged combat; and Rupture, a high-tech facility reimagining of the classic World at War map, Outskirts.

Salvation will be available for the PlayStation 4 on September 6, while there aren't any official release dates for the XBox One and PC yet. The last DLC is also part of the "Black Ops III" $50 season pass and will be sold for $15 on its own. Pre-ordering will also get you a exclusive DLC 4 dynamic system theme.
