Call of Duty Ghosts Surpasses Grand Theft Auto 5, Makes $1 Billion on Launch Day

Call of Duty: Ghosts surpassed Grand Theft Auto 5 as the fastest selling game of all time, hitting the mark in just one day as opposed to GTA's three day former record.

"Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation," said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, in a news release from CoD's developer. "More people have played Call of Duty this year than ever before, logging four billion hours of gameplay."

Call of Duty: Ghosts' early reviews so far have been mixed as many feel the game is just an updated clone of the last installment.

Many reviewers and gamers are also stating that Battlefield 4 "blows CoD out of the water" an owner of both games told CP.

Another gamer, Mike Miley, told CP: "You've played this one already if you've played the previous installments."

Mark Stein appears to be focused on other things: "GTA Online happened," he said.

The praise for the game is again the great online play and replayable ability that keeps fans of the game coming back. However, the innovation for the franchise is severely lacking as the game is just too similar to the last one.

CoD Ghosts was release this past Tuesday for $59.99 on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC. The game will make the next-gen cross over to the Xbox One and PS4 when they launch on Nov. 22 and Nov. 15 respectively.

Ghosts will not run on full HD for the Xbox One, according to an admission from Infinity Ward.

"Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven't had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we're 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we're native 1080p on PS4. We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both. Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can't wait for next week's launch," tweeted Mark Rubin of Infinity Ward.

CoD will be in 720p for Xbox One, and 1080p for the PlayStation 4. According to The Verge, this was done to ensure the game was able to run in 60 fps. Being in 720p means the game will essentially have the same graphics as its 360 counterpart, albeit a little more updated visually.
