Can I Know for Sure That I Am Forgiven?
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Have you ever wondered if you are really forgiven? One of the last things Jesus said as He hung on the cross was, "It is finished!" He meant that He had done all that is necessary to pay for your sin. God loved you when you didn't deserve it. Jesus died for you so you could be forgiven. If you have trusted Jesus as your Savior, God kept His promise. He has forgiven you, and you have eternal life. One Bible writer says, "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life" (1 John 5:13). Also, the Bible says that when God forgives you, He won't remember your sins anymore (Hebrews 8:12).
Maybe you're thinking, but I don't feel like I'm forgiven! Your forgiveness does not depend on how you feel. It is based on your faith in Jesus and what He has done for you. Put your name in His promise: "For God so loved [your name] that he gave his one and only Son, that if [your name] believes in him [your name] shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).
