Captain America 3 Release Date, Latest Rumors: Hawkeye Cast in the Third Sequel?

Earlier this year, reports indicated that directors Anthony and Joe Russo had been signed again to direct a third installment for the superhero film "Captain America." The helmers confirmed the reports in March 2014 with Kevin Feige set as producer and Christopher Markus and Stephen McFreely to once again write the screenplay.

The continuation of the franchise was brought out following the record-breaking April box office opening for the previous "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." This goes on to say that the Marvel film series is indeed a "hot solo-movie commodity," as Screen Rant put it.

Meanwhile, casting rumors indicated Jeremy Renner's involvement in the project.

The "Bourne Legacy" actor talked about how his archer character "can work well jumping around" the various Marvel stories. When asked about the possibility of Hawkeye appearing in "Captain America 3," he said it was possible.

"I'm happy to be the ensemble. I'm not scratching or clawing to do a solo movie by any means. I think he's a utility guy that can bounce around into other people's universes a little bit, especially like 'Cap 3,'" he told MTV News.

However, one report said the "Captain America" directors "felt sad they couldn't include Hawkeye" in the upcoming movie. This may suggest that the character would have been a perfect addition to the film but due to the circumstances of the actor, it seems unlikely to happen.

"Renner's commitment to Mission Impossible 5 and the Bourne franchise may make a role in Captain America 3 difficult," Screen Rant speculated.

"I don't know what's going to happen. I know it's going to start shooting in March. I haven't had any official conversations about doing it or not," Renner admitted to The Daily Beast.

"Captain America 3" will see the return of Chris Evans as the supersoldier Steve Rogers with Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, a.k.a The Winter Soldier. As reported, the film will hit the cinemas on May 6, 2016.
