Carol Burnett Withholds Forgiveness From Joan Rivers

Comedic legend Carol Burnett is apparently withholding forgiveness to fellow actress Joan Rivers.

Burnett was featured in the latest episode of "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?" and had a tiff with the elder Rivers. In what was surely a scripted, perfectly timed scene, Rivers approaches Burnett out-of-the-blue in a restaurant. What are the odds of them dining at the same place at the same time?

As the two exchange tense greetings, Burnett immediately sings, "You've done something" while pointing a knowing finger at Rivers. "New chin, new nose, new cheekbones," Rivers replies. "Then you've done a lot of something," quips Burnett.

The reason for the chat is that Rivers needs a celebrity to make an appearance at grandson Cooper's school as part of a charity event. She explains that it is during Memorial Day weekend, which shouldn't be much of an inconvenience.

One can see a look come over Burnett's face as she explains, "I really can't. I'm sorry." As Rivers continues to plead her case by explaining that Memorial Day weekend is usually relaxing, a time off for people, Burnett finally blurts out, "I'm busy all of May!"

Rivers looks stricken, pauses and responds, "I'm feeling some animosity." Burnett, the queen of expressions, peers into Rivers' eyes and bluntly asks, "Really?" As Rivers attempts to take this all in, she asks, "What is it?"

This is when old-school comedic timing that Burnett is famous for erupts, and she literally throws in the towel, stands up and yells, "Hawaii." The scene closes with her walking out, leaving Rivers to call out, "Carol! Carol!" while someone else at the table, an unnamed party, asks, "What happened in Hawaii?"

The two grand dames of the entertainment industry work well together and play off of each other's expressions and timing. It's the type of comedy that gets lost amid shows like Tosh.O.
