'Castle' season 8 news: Kate gets promoted, Ryan welcomes second baby

Set to make a comeback for its eighth season on ABC this September, "Castle" will see a positive premiere as Kate Beckett steps up to replace Captain Victoria Gates as the news Captain of the 12th Precinct.

Earlier reports have indicated that Beckett will choose to turn down offers for a position in the New York State Senate and will settle for the promotion as she continues to crack cases with her novelist husband, Rick Castle.

While this is good news for a big bunch of Beckett fans, the mysteries that revolve around the detective's disappearance have yet to be answered, and according to several outlets, some of the pieces of the puzzle will come to place in the upcoming season.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Alexi Hawley said the upcoming installment will provide more vivid answers to the many questions haunting Castle's six-month long disappearance.

"This year, we really do want to get into what happened when he was gone in a way that hopefully ties a lot of the threads of mysteries of seven seasons together in an unexpected and exciting way," he said.

Meanwhile, a heart-warming season is indeed in the works as a new baby is said to be welcomed in the cast — just that it won't be Castle and Beckett's.

The bundle of joy to enter the characters' lives is Ryan's and the baby will be his second child, meaning Sarah Grace will now have a sibling.

Terrence Winter, co-executive producer, told TV Guide that, "Ultimately, that's going to make Ryan even more paranoid and more excited about trying to make more money," referring to the coming of Ryan's new child.

Winter also said that Ryan and Esposito will realize that they need to start working toward a better future upon seeing that Beckett has earned her rights in the higher ranks. He further explained that rift will come in between the three due to Beckett's promotion.

Castle season 8 is expected to air on Sept. 21.
