Chelsea vs Rubin Kazan takes place in the Europa League quarter final second leg on Thursday night with the English Premier League giants taking a 3-1 lead with them to Moscow. The game is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. UK time and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).
Chelsea will be confident of coming through this game and making it to the semi finals, however, they will know Rubin can be dangerous at home and have the away goal in their favor. Chelsea will be focusing on keeping Rubin out, but at the same time will want to wipe out that away goal.
At the moment the task for the Russian league side is to keep a clean sheet while scoring two; a 2-0 win would see them through on the away goals rule. However, should Chelsea score, then Rubin will need three just to take it to extra time.
Chelsea have some injuries coming into this game, with Ryan Bertrand, who stood in for Ashley Cole at left-back in the first leg, set to miss the game. He is reportedly too ill to travel, giving Nathan Ake, 18, the opportunity to make his 2nd ever Blues start.
Gary Cahill is also out after having knee surgery, and Demba Ba is cup-tied.
With so many key players missing Rubin will see this as an opportunity to take the game to the Blues side, who to be honest have more concerns that their Europa League run.
They are fighting to claim one of the Champions League spots by finishing in the top 4 in the English Premier League, and that campaign will take clear precedence over their Europa League efforts. Already some Blues players have commented that they feel deflated playing on Thursday nights instead of on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Champions League.
This game has crucially been moved to Moscow as there are prohibiting freezing temperatures in Rubin's home region of Tartarstan.
Rubin will feel that goes against them as they have won all three of their home games played in Kazan in this competition, including a massive 3-0 win over Italian giants Inter Milan. Coach Kurban Berdyev has already complained about the switch: "If we had played in Kazan, we'd have a full stadium with fans to support us and of course we'd have more chance to beat Chelsea."
"We have the chance to fight on Thursday. They won in London because we made two mistakes which cost us two goals."
