Cher Not Dead, Kim Kardashian Relieved

Cher is not dead, though Kim Kardashian may say otherwise.

While the icon may not be dead, she is a victim of the infamous Twitter death hoax, which often sets off a flurry of public activity. For example, one Twitter user will pick a celebrity, then tweet that she or he is dead. People, not knowing whether it is true or not, will take to social sites to spread the rumor and seek the truth.

This time Cher was the target, and many people have tweeted their reactions to the news. User DCJosie tweeted, "Can someone confirm!? Is Cher dead?!" Several celebrities have used their Twitter accounts to address the rumors. Kim Kardashian initially believed that Cher was dead. "Did I just hear that Cher has passed away? Is this real? OMG." She later tweeted, "I hope this is a twitter joke and not true. I don't see it on the news anywhere. I'm praying its (sic) not true."

Other celebrities were able to address the rumors and set their followers straight. Lady Gaga tweeted, "Don't have a heart attack because it's a HOAX. She's NOT dead. Cher's still alive. Who ever start (sic) the horrible TT 'RIP Cher' has NO LIFE!"

Twitter has been used to "report" the deaths of the following stars: Jim Carrey, who died in a snowboarding accident, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Justin Bieber, Morgan Freeman, and Christian Slater, Owen Wilson and Adam Sandler. The majority of these tweets have been traced to an account under the name Global Associated News, which is owned by one user.

Cher is actually alive and well, recording her first album since 2001. One of the most anticipated songs on the album is a duet with Lady Gaga titled "The Greatest Thing." The new album is currently unnamed but will be released in early 2012.
