'Chicago Fire' Season 2 Spoilers: Old Faces Return to Help Their Own During City Crisis (VIDEO)

Tonight begins a special two-night crossover episode between "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D." on NBC. There are numerous changes in store for Firehouse 51 and those in the police department.

After a hospital explosion rocks Chicago, Firehouse 51 is first on the scene, with Hermmann finally taking charge alongside the Chief and Lt. Casey. It'll be the first true test of the newest lieutenant and one that is sure to leave a mark, for better or worse, on the longtime firehouse veteran. One of the tasks awaiting the first responders is finding all the victims, which may or may not include one of their own, bringing an all-new type of panic and urgency to their work.

Another major threat to the characters of both shows is the possibility of a second bomb. Mills and Cruz are dispatched to try and track down this bomb, but will they be successful? Or will a second explosion cause even more damage to the city and to the members of both squads.

Of course, one of the underlying tensions throughout the season has been Lt. Casey's physical and mental health after a brutal head injury. Doctors warned him that one more blow could be fatal, and tonight's episode could pose a significant risk to his health.

Several old faces will return to the scene during the emergency, which is an all-hands-on-deck scenario. Dylan Baker will take a brief respite from "The Good Wife" and reappear as a good guy Dr. Arata; Christine Evangelista will return as Shay's former EMT partner Rafferty in order to treat the wounded. There are also will be several new faces during the episodes, including Amanda Righetti from "The Mentalist," who plays a pediatrician just starting in Chicago after working in New York City.

According to reports, tonight's episode will answer several questions while still leaving room for many more questions to be dealt with. Tomorrow night's episode, however, gives the show two more weeks to bring things to a formalized conclusion, if that's even possible with these two series.
