A shooting at a Chicago hospital Thursday left one woman dead and another injured, according to reports.

The shooting happened in a parking garage at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center close to midnight.

Police are searching for the boyfriend of one of the victims. Officials say the suspect was a 15-year employee of the hospital.

Chicago and UIC police conducted a five-hour search of the sprawling medical center campus, but found no trace of the suspect.

The search, which involved the city’s SWAT team, started just before midnight, but the lockdown at the medical center was lifted at around 5 a.m. Friday.

The police conducted a "very thorough, room-by-room, top-to-bottom, roof-to-basement search," UIC Medical Center spokesman Mark Rosati said.

Officials said there is no evidence the suspect entered the medical center after the shooting.

The identity of the victims was not released, thought he medical center employs numerous students from the nearby university.

Officials confirmed the shooting victim was not a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, but are waiting to release the name of the victim until family is notified.

Police SWAT teams searched every room in the medical center throughout the night, while police helicopters circled overhead, conducting an arial search for the suspect.

Only a vague description of the suspect was provided as police continue to piece together the information surrounding the shooting.

University officials sent out a text message and email alert to students, which houses the medical center.

The message was sent just before 1 a.m. Friday.

"There is a man with a gun in the UIC Hospital, last seen on the second floor. Sat in a secure location and lock doors if possible. He is armed and dangerous." the alert said. "An all-clear message will be transmitted when he is apprehended."

It is unclear what leads police have in the case or when the suspect might be caught.
