Chip and Joanna Gaines Announce 'Fixer Upper' Season 5 Will Mark Show's End

Chip and Joanna Gaines recently confirmed that "Fixer Upper" will end on its fifth season.

Following a widely successful run, HGTV's remodeling series will come to an end after season 5. The couple broke the news through a video posted on Twitter. According to Chip and Joanna, they are taking a step back from the limelight to focus on their family and their other businesses.

"While we are confident that this is the right choice for us, it has for sure not been an easy one to come to terms with," the hosts wrote on their official blog. "Our family has grown up alongside yours, and we have felt you rooting us on from the other side of the screen. How bittersweet to say goodbye to the very thing that introduced us all in the first place."

News of "Fixer Upper's" end came as a huge surprise to fans, since it is going out on top as one of the highest-rated programs in HGTV's history. Although they are saying goodbye to their TV show, the Gaineses still have a lot going on — they recently inked a multiyear product deal with Target and opened a real estate business.

Since its premiere in 2013, "Fixer Upper" has turned into a cult favorite among HGTV viewers. The show follows Waco residents Chip, 42, and Joanna, 39, as they transform dilapidated properties into dream homes for buyers.

Their huge success opened doors not only for them, but also for their city in central Texas. Waco was immediately flooded with tourists while Chip and Joanna turned into media darlings — appearing on talk shows and gracing covers of magazines.

"We respect and are in full support of their decision to take time to focus on their family and their many projects through Magnolia," Jim Berger, CEO of High Noon Entertainment, the company that produces the show, said. "Everyone here at High Noon is so proud of the upcoming fifth season and we can't wait for fans to experience it."

The fifth and final season of "Fixer Upper" premieres November on HGTV.
